Nuwat for Environmental Research & Education W.L.L. is Bahrain’s first environmental research and conservation think tank. We work at the intersection of science, people, policy and nature combining local and ancestral knowledge with modern scientific tools to protect our ecosystems and inspire future environmental leaders.

WHAT WE DO – OUR FOUR PILLARS
- Research: We generate ecological data across terrestrial and ecosystems, working with the unknown to build evidence that matters.
- Education: We design hands-on learning experiences that connect people to nature through understanding, not lectures.
- Consultancy: We translate science into guidance for decision-makers, film-makers and other stakeholders, grounded in local knowledge and lived experience.
- Conservation: Protection is the outcome of understanding. When communities are informed, care becomes natural.
SKILLS YOU CAN BRING
We welcome volunteers with diverse skills, backgrounds, and abilities. Your contribution doesn’t have to look one way.
Skills that are valuable at Nuwat include:
- Field & Environmental Skills: Ecological surveys, sampling support, species identification, field logistics
- Research & Analytical Skills: Data entry, analysis, literature reviews, GIS, statistics, report writing
- Education & Outreach: Teaching support, workshop facilitation, youth engagement, public communication
- Media, Art & Storytelling: Photography, videography, video editing, art, illustration, graphic design, writing, social media
- Community & Coordination: Citizen science coordination, stakeholder engagement, event support, administration
- Technical & Digital Skills: database management, mapping tools, website support, data platforms, software skills
- Languages & Communication: Arabic–English translation, science communication, policy writing, editing.

WHAT DOES VOLUNTEERING INVOLVE?
Volunteer roles vary by project and may include:
- Fieldwork support
- Research assistance and data handling
- Education and outreach activities
- Citizen science coordination
- Media, documentation and logistics
Opportunities are project-based and may be available year-round (such as social media and communications roles) or seasonally, depending on the nature of the work.
WHO IS THIS FOR?
Volunteering with Nuwat is for people who:

- Are comfortable working in teams
- Love Nature and are comfortable being out on the field
- Value ethics, safety, and responsibility
This may not be the right fit if you’re looking for:
- Short (less than three months) and/or one-off volunteering without commitment
- Roles that are limited to observational or low-engagement activities only
- Activities without accountability or structure
