National Environment Day

Feb 10, 2025

Bahrain

To mark National Environment Day this year, Nuwat in collaboration with the Bahrain Science Centre for SDGs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Ministry of Education, launched its national programme titled “Plastic Footprints” which aims to educate youth and members of the public on the urgent challenge of plastic pollution and provide solutions for ways to tackle it.

This joint initiative marked the first in a series of workshops that aims to also support the national Sustainable Waters campaign led by the Supreme Council for Environment under the slogan “Every Drop Has a Story.” 💧

Students from various public schools across the kingdom learnt about the history of plastics, the types of plastics that surround them, the differences between micro- and nano-plastics while gaining insights into Bahrain’s policies on plastic reduction. Students engaged in discussions on how to curb plastic dependency in their communities, experienced conducting a plastic inventory in various settings ranging from offices to cafeterias, were given the opportunity to draw together strategies for tackling the plastic issue to be shared with their schools.

A huge thank you to our collaborators, volunteers, and Dr. Abdulkarim Rashed for his invaluable insights! A special appreciation to the schools and students for their enthusiasm and engagement! Together, we’re raising awareness and driving change for a cleaner, greener future.
