Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP16)

Oct 31, 2024

Cali, Colombia

In October and November while the World was focused on the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) COP29 in Baku, Nuwat was focused on something that is as important yet neglected: the CBD COP16 which is the UN’s Biodiversity COP especially that biodiversity regulates the climate! Prior to COP16, in a series of webinars, policymakers, government representatives and key participants from all around the world were convened to focus on regional policy-making in the Middle East and Northern Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa and Europe. These series were hosted by the Global Rewilding Alliance in collaboration with Yale University and IFAW. The webinars were well attended and we were really pleased by the attendance from the Bahraini government.

We are delighted to be able to report that the role of nature in addressing the climate emergency has now been officially recognised in the text from COP16, including the role of wild animals.
