Science & Policy Specialist

Etaf is a strategic environmental consultant with a focus on environmental policy and programme development. With over 18 years’ experience, Etaf has been designing, implementing, managing and evaluating globally funded (GCF and GEF) multi-million-dollar projects and initiatives focused on environmental policy and governance, sustainable development, environmental management and conservation aligned with national and UN Sustainable Development Goals. She has worked in international development in the West Asia region at the United Nations Environment Programme as the Regional Coordinator for healthy and productive ecosystems focusing on terrestrial, coastal and marine ecosystems, promoting and facilitating partnership between UNEP and regional institutions and key stakeholders. Her expertise lies in the areas of programme management, strategy development, technical support and policy analysis.

In addition to the UNEP, she also has experience consulting private and public sector organizations on EIAs, environmental policy, environmental education and capacity building. She worked at Atkins Bahrain, a global multidisciplinary engineering firm, undertaking and coordinating the environmental work on large-scale development projects such as Durrat Al Bahrain and the World Trade Center and carrying out environmental impact assessments, design and management of environmental management plans. She currently works independently as a strategic environmental consultant based in Bahrain with a focus on policy and programme development.
